What is C.O.P.S. ??
|
It is, Community Oriented Policing Services. C.O.P.S. has many programs under it's non-profit umbrella that are focused on making your neighborhood the kind
of place you want your children to grow up! The kind of neighborhood where you know your neighbors and feel safer.
As a Volunteer you will be trained in the following areas:
NOTE:
- Volunteers must fill out an application for a criminal background check and recieve special training.
You may choose the areas of volunteerism your are interested in.
Latent Fingerprint Reporting
You will be trained to lift fingerprints for victims of vehicular break-ins. You will learn to do "additional" police reports linking
important fingerprint evidence for possible investigation.
Information to educate and assist citizens that have been victimized will assist you
in this vital act of support to the police department of your community.
Graffiti Report Team
Spokane Police Department will train you to fill out an official police report and photograph graffiti. This
information provides helpful intelligence for the Special Investigative Unit (SIU) on gang activity.
Parent's Coalition
This is a program that offers support to parent's in crisis associated
with raising their children. Call 625-3301

Safe Streets NOW
This is a program that teaches citizens to channel thier talents into a successful action
plan, reclaiming their neighborhood from drugs in a safe effective and efficient manner.

Neigborhood Observation Patrol (N.O.P.)
N.O.P. is a volunteer patrol and observation program which is designed to aide a neigborhood in reporting suspicious and
criminal activity. Most N.O.P. groups operate on Friday and Saturday evenings, however they must
also operate before and after school in some areas. Call 625-3300.
Spokane Regional Public Safety Activities League
This is a local chapter of the National PAL Organization, designed to promote sport activities awith police and the citizens. Call 625-4449 for more information
on current activities and how you can support this program.
International Student Safety Program
Foreign students and thier families may view a video tape on how to be safe in their new community. They also receive a "HELP" card in their language, until
they learn to communicate in this new land.
