Developmentally Disabled Outreach Program
The East Central Community Center is in the "people business" and the needs of people are continually being assessed and addressed
by our staff and our board. We provide opportunities for Youth, Seniors, Teens, Adults and People with developmentally disabilities.
The East Central Board mandates that every effort be made so that every client is challenged to grow to his/her fullest potential.
Our Developmentally Disabled Outreach Program endeavors to provide a well-rounded program addressing a wide range of opportunities.
Physical Education
Our clients are encouraged to engage in a physical exercise program (walking, sit and be fit and gym activities.
The goal of the exercise program is to relieve stress, increase their range of motion, fexiblilty and assistance
in developing a healthier lifestyle,
Life Skills Development
Life Skill Development includes nutritious cooking classes. Clients help plan their menus, travel to the store, assist with the purchase of needed
items and assist with meal preperation and serving. Clients can also conduct cleanup after the meal.
Life skills includes trips to the Skill Center for hair cuts and manicures. We have found that providing
volunteer opportunities for some clients is very appropriate as it gives them a feeling of the working world, which some have shown interested in being a
part of through having jobs.
Socialization and Integration
Socialization and Integration is a natural make-up of the program. The Development Disabilities Program operates
in conjunction with our Senior Program and is located in the same setting. The program provides trips into the community for leisure
activities. These activities include bus rides to Riverfront Park, downtown Spokane, bowling, annual trips to the Ice Capades, Silverwood, all Senior Picnic, all Senior Christmas Party and so on.
Because of the setting of our program, our clients often interact with our Senior Program as well as visiting other DD Programs.
